How to Connect to PC without Power Adapter

You can power the hard drive using a desktop computer power supply (PSU) if you don’t have an external adapter. Here’s how:

Using a Standard ATX Power Supply:

1. Turn Off the Power Supply:

   • If it’s already in a computer, shut down the PC first.
   • If using a standalone PSU, make sure it’s unplugged.

2. Use a Molex or SATA Power Connector:

   • For IDE Drives: Use a Molex 4-pin power connector (white plastic plug).
   • For SATA Drives: Use a SATA power connector (flat black plug).

3. Power On the PSU:

   • If the PSU is installed in a PC, simply turn on the PC.
   • If using a standalone PSU, you need to jump-start it:
     • Find the 24-pin motherboard connector.
     • Use a paperclip or wire to connect the green wire (PS_ON) to any black wire (ground).
     • This tricks the PSU into turning on without being connected to a motherboard.

4. Connect the USB to IDE/SATA Adapter to Your PC:

   • Once the drive is powered, plug in the USB end of the adapter to your computer.
